چکیده

Introduction Continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) is often not continuous. Indeed, premature unplanned interruptions of sessions (UI) appear frequently. Nurses are directly implicated in the management of CVVH generators. High fidelity simulation (Sim) is an efficient method for health care provider training, mainly to improve procedural and knowledge skills. Taking advantage of the introduction of CVVH in our ICU as a new technic, we wanted to evaluate Sim for nurses CVVH training.

Effectiveness of Continuous Veno-Venous Hemofiltration and Intermittent Hemodialysis in the Treatment of Severe Acute Phenobarbital Poisoning

Background: Phenobarbital poisoning is common in Vietnam. The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) and hemodialysis (HD) on clinical outcomes in the treatment of severe acute phenobarbital poisoning. Methods: This was a retrospective observational historically controlled study. 42 patients with severe phenobarbital poisoning were enr...

Continuous veno-venous hemofiltration in patients with metformin associated lactic acidosis

Introduction Metformin is frequently used by type II diabetics. A rare complication of its use is metformin associated lactic acidosis (MALA). This condition is often accompanied by extreme metabolic acidosis and hemodynamic instability for which ICU treatment is mandatory. Guidelines advice intermittent hemodialysis for correction of metabolic acidosis and to clear metformin. However, haemodyn...

Good-bye CRRT, here comes SLED? ... not so fast!

In the continuing dispute about the superiority of either intermittent or continuous renal replacement therapy for the critically ill, hybrid methods such as sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) combining the advantages of both modalities--that is, excellent hemodynamic stability and low costs--receive growing attention. The study by Schwenger and colleagues is the first randomized trial in...

Solute removal during continuous renal replacement therapy in critically ill patients: convection versus diffusion

INTRODUCTION The best modality, for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is currently uncertain and it is poorly understood how transport of different solutes, whether convective or diffusive, changes over time. METHODS We conducted a prospective cross over study in a cohort of critically ill patients, comparing small (urea and creatinine) and middle (beta2 microglobulin) molecular wei...

Citrate Pharmacokinetics in Critically Ill Patients with Acute Kidney Injury

INTRODUCTION Regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) is gaining popularity in continous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for critically ill patients. The risk of citrate toxicity is a primary concern during the prolonged process. The aim of this study was to assess the pharmacokinetics of citrate in critically ill patients with AKI, and used the kinetic parameters to predict the risk of citrate ...
